The Enterprise of Liberation

Creative Challenge Residential Workshops
ESADHaR, Le Harve, France

24 - 28 November 2014

As winners of Creative Challenge 2013 we were invided to join this year's week of residential workshops at L'École Supérieure d'Art et Design Le Havre-Rouen (ESADHaR) as workshop fascilitators.

Workingin small groups, over 60 students from Univeristy of the Creative Arts at Canterbury, Rochester and Farnham as well as L'École Supérieure d'Art et Design at Le Harve and Rouen, explored through the acts of thinking, talking and making, the tensions between enterprise and liberation and the opportunities that lie within them.

For ‘Liberate My People' we were in the print atelier at ESADHaR where we continued in the tradition of protest art. Posters and fliers have long been at the centre of grass roots political communication. Succinct and popular they are a powerfully immediate form of public speech creating awareness of important issues and inspiring political and social change. Made with collaborative effort our posters and fliers were by the people, for the people. At the exhibition the posters were pinned to upturned pallets, in the spirit of the barricade, to create an installation. Fliers, as well as folded posters, were presented on narrow shelves in the manner of a bookshop or library display, serving as a reminder of the power of the pen.
